Colonoscopy preparation
Bowel preparation instructions with Fortrans, developed by Dr. Alexandru Constantinescu. Follow the protocol corresponding to your scheduled time.
Proper bowel preparation is essential for a quality colonoscopy. An insufficiently prepared colon can lead to reduced visibility, missed lesions, or the need to repeat the procedure. Below you will find detailed instructions for both scheduling options.
Choose the protocol corresponding to the time your colonoscopy is scheduled.
Protocol A — Morning colonoscopy (9:00 AM)
Dietary restrictions
6–7 days before the examination, avoid:
raw vegetables, green vegetables, fruits (especially grapes, kiwi, figs), legumes, tomatoes, activated charcoal, laxative oils, iron supplements.
The day before the examination
You may eat normally, but only until 2:00 PM. After this time, only clear liquids are allowed: sweetened tea, mineral water, weak coffee.
Fortrans administration
Starting at 4:00 PM, the day before the examination, drink 4 liters of Fortrans (1 sachet dissolved in 1 liter of water) over 6–10 hours, at a steady pace.
A slow, steady pace prevents abdominal bloating, nausea, and vomiting. Vomiting is undesirable as it results in loss of the active substance.
The goal is to produce a nearly clear, watery stool.
In rare cases, if the stool is not watery, contact the medical staff before coming for the examination. You may need to drink an additional liter of solution.
The examination takes place the next day after 9:00 AM.
Protocol B — Afternoon colonoscopy (4:00 PM)
Dietary restrictions
5–6 days before the examination, avoid:
raw vegetables, green vegetables, fruits (especially grapes, kiwi, figs), legumes, tomatoes, activated charcoal, laxative oils, iron supplements, boiled vegetables.
3 days before, you may consume: meat, pasta, dairy products, clear soups, boiled eggs, still water, teas, non-carbonated juices, light coffee.
